TOURIST INFORMATION OF PUNO
The Puno City located at the banks of the Titicaca Lake the highest navigable lake of the world and life’s fountain of the towns that live in the surrounds.Puno, considered like the Capital of Peruvian Folklore which show us in the Party of the Candelaria Virgin in the month of February where its happiness and enthusiasm by the dance and music is emotive and motive us to dance and feel the music.
THE SACRED LAKE TITICACA :
The Titicaca Lake occupies a surface of 8559 km and it location of highest altitude is at 3827 m.a.s.l. Located at 10 blocks from La Plaza de Armas of Puno with a depth of 25 meters and its waters blue color and in the less depth waters are green color which is due to the water plants. From the Lake’s port of the Puno City everyday excursions to the following Islands are made.
EXCURSION TO THE LAKE: TITICACA ISLANDS
1.- ISLAND OF UROS : Includes almost 50 floating islands placed at 10 km. From Puno’s port, in the great Bahía of Puno. Its habitants had consolidated this islands leaning, during hundreds of years, Totora ‘s layers, each one over another, to get this special balance which allow them to live in the middle of the Titicaca’s Lake without suffering mayors mishaps. Puno Habitants are good fishers, handicraft makers.
2.-TAQUILE ISLAND : Placed in the mayor lake at 30 km. from Puno City at 3 hours in boat, you can stay in house of the Community ‘s families. Traditional community of 350 families which still now live inside the traditions and customs of the XIV century, according to the principles of the Inca Life. Without considering the pass of the time, the three Gold’s rules of the Inca Empire have been survived: Ama suwa, Ama quella, Ama llulla (do not steal, do not be lazy and do not lie) and until now continue surviving with a life’s joy, the good humor, the smile and the mutual help. Climbing, to the board of small stone’s aligned roads, the visitant can feel this amazing and surprising environment that involves the island and its main feature is the conservation of a great number of customs of the ancient population of the lake. Taquile is an island of weavers.. A textile handicraft truly exceptional. If you stay in Taquile you’ll be lodged in houses of families of the habitants.
3.- AMANTANI ISLAND : Island placed at the northeast of Titicaca at 40 km of Puno City, by a road of regular slope you can visit the ceremonial places such as Pallasca and Pachamama Pre-incas constructions. Its habitants are dedicated to the agriculture and fish and they produce textiles in variety of designs and create rock carvings. The food is prepared by families and if you stay in this island will be in family’s houses of the area. 4.- SUASI ISLAND :
Small and singular island placed at the Northeast of the Titicaca, is a space of peaceful life between the man and the nature place where we’ll appreciate the wild flora and fauna, the Natural’s Mirador where we’ll find a lodge with 12 habitants, this is a private and privileged where we can know the world of the Altiplano and the Titicaca lake, this is ideal for the meeting with the nature and with yourself. There is not markets nor discos nor television.
5.- THE COMMUNITY OF LLACHON : Placed at the board of the Lake at74 km. From Puno in highway and 28 km by the Port. It is a privileged place and there is possibility of share the Community’s life in its daily task. The habitants done their houses in a reserved room to theirs guests with certainly comfort and taste the typical dishes of the Andean cuisine. An experience truly out of the world. It has beautiful beaches of white sand which contrast with the crystalline waters of the highest lake of the world. The habitants had profited efficiently the accidents of the hills building an ingenious system of Andenerias (Andean canals) which stands out the natural beauty of the area. Its weather if generally hot in days of Sun but the temperatures registers a sensible down by the nights. In Llachon you can do long walks, walk in wind boats, practice kayac, go fishing, participate in the activities of the agriculture.
EXCURSIONS BY LAND :
1.- ARCHEOLOGICAL COMPLEX OF SILLUSTANI To 34 km. To the North from Puno (35 minutes in car) passing by the airport to the City is founded the Lake of Umayo. It is famous by Las chullpas; circular towers of stone made to lodge the rests of the main authorities of the ancient’s habitants of Collao. At a short distance from the complex is located the Museum of the place, which has several pieces of Collas Culture. 2.- AYMARAS TOWN :
Visit to the towns Aymaras of Titicaca Lake. Beginning with the Temple of Fertility Chucuito
, rich place in archeological rests such as the Temple Falico“Inca Ullo” destined to the cult to Fertility. Many of its houses and church still now conserve its virreynal past. By the road we’ll appreciate interesting archeological formations of stones which represent animals figures and a wrought rock with door’s figure called the Devil’s door. Thus we’ll visit Acora
